Synodo and RightNow Media: a video library and a place to run the group
Checked 2026-10-19
The short answer: RightNow Media is a streaming library of Christian video Bible studies that a church subscribes to and gives its people. Synodo does not have a video library; it is where each group runs — the study written as meetings, leaders-only guides, homework, attendance follow-up and the conversation. Many churches would use RightNow Media for the videos and Synodo to run the groups that watch them.
| Synodo | RightNow Media | |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | Running each small group week to week: the study, the meeting and the conversation in between. | A library of Christian video studies and resources for churches, small groups and families. |
| Study content | Your own studies, or copies of ready-made ones, written as meetings with a Member Guide and a leaders-only Leader Guide. No video library of its own. | A large library of video Bible studies, many with a study guide, plus its own original small group curriculum. |
| Videos | A YouTube, Vimeo or Loom link on a topic plays in place. Other links, such as a RightNow Media video, open where they live. | Streaming on the web and in its app, with offline playback, audio-only mode and watching together. |
| Group tools | Attendance, “To check on”, homework and hand-ins, polls, sign-ups, RSVPs, growth partners and the group’s conversation. | Groups: chat threads, sharing videos, scheduling meetings and collecting attendance. |
| The church’s view | A church admin sees every group, its attendance and who to check on. | Owners and group managers set up groups and assign leaders. |
Can a church use both?
Yes, and they do different jobs. RightNow Media supplies the video study; Synodo holds the meeting around it — the leader’s preparation, the discussion questions, what to do before next week and who has not been for a while. Put the video’s link on that meeting’s topic and the group finds it where they find everything else.
When is RightNow Media enough on its own?
When groups mostly watch a video series together and talk about it, the study guide that comes with it covers the leader’s preparation, and its Groups chat is enough between meetings.
When does Synodo help?
- The church writes or adapts its own study, or runs mentoring and discipleship that is not a video series.
- Leaders need a guide for each meeting that members never see, kept the same across every group.
- The church wants to see every group’s health and have the people who need a call put in front of leaders each week.
- Groups want homework, hand-ins, sign-ups and RSVPs on the meeting they belong to.
